Workforce Investment Act (WIA): Some states provide financial assistance for type training for “dislocated workers” through Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding. HPA has extensive experience in helping students get US government assistance for training, dating all the way back to when it was the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). Many captains at Southwest Airlines would not have had that opportunity without help from JTPA funding, and the same is true with WIA-funded and HPA-provided career restarts for scores of First Officers at Southwest Airlines, AirTran, JetBlue and many air operators.
