TSA, VISAS, and LICENSE VALIDATION
Higher Power Aviation (HPA) has been privileged to train international pilots and dispatchers from all over the world. We can assist you in obtaining clearance to train through TSA, getting an M-1 visa to travel to the U.S. for training, and obtaining validation of a foreign license through the FAA.
TSA CLEARANCE FOR TYPE RATINGS
International students must obtain clearance from TSA to take flight training in the United States. If you are an international student planning to obtain a type rating on an aircraft over 12,500 pounds, you must apply to TSA for either Category 1 or Category 2 clearance. If previously cleared for initial training through TSA you qualify to submit a Category 2 request. Further information on TSA Categories can be found through the link below.
TSA CLEARANCE FOR RECURRENT TRAINING
If you are an international student planning to obtain recurrent training or any training in a simulator other than initial type rating on an aircraft over 12,500 pounds, you must apply to TSA for Category 4 clearance.
VISA INFORMATION AND PROCESSING
International students must have the appropriate visa to travel to the United States to participate in flight training. A pilot taking recurrent flight training as a condition of his/her employment with the employer financing the flight training may travel on a B-1 Business Visa. If the pilot is not taking recurrent training through an employer, but is coming as an individual and paying for the expenses on their own, they must have an M-1 Visa. Any pilot attending training for an initial type rating must have an M-1 visa. As an approved M-1 Training Center, we can issue a Form I-20 and assist you with obtaining an M-1 Visa.
VERIFICATION OF AUTHENTICITY OF FOREIGN LICENSE
If you are applying for a FAA pilot certificate issued on the basis of a foreign license, you must have the validity and currency of your foreign license and medical certificate or endorsement verified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) that issued those certificates, before making application for an FAA certificate or authorization. Higher Power Aviation has assisted hundreds of international pilots to obtain this verification from the FAA.
